Autopsy - Fairport Convention (Unhalfbricking, 1969)

Ok my friends I am asking for some advice, this is the only Fairport album I own an I'm rather obsessed with it at the moment and would really like to hear some more but do not know where to start. Can anyone advise me as to which album of theirs I should get next?

Stone The Crows - Friend (Ode to John Law, 1970) 

Another bootfair gem I got recently was the album Ode to John Law by scottish band Stone The Crows. I have to admit to being rather ignorant of this band having only seen a clip of them on an Old Grey Whistle Test rerun. But I liked what I heard and when I saw this LP of course I couldn't pass it up! I love that this you tube clip has a good crackle to it, there's nothing like listening to vinyl is there?!

Montague Terrace (in blue) - Scott Walker (Scott, 1967)

Another lovely tune by Mr Walker.... practically all I have been listening to this week is Scott 3, but I do love this track from his first solo album Scott. Like most of his tracks the strings are really haunting & along with his stunning vocals this track is really dreamy - I hope you like it too!

Hush by Woody Herman (Light my Fire, 1969)

Another fab cover of this iconic tune. The other day from my neighbour gave me a couple of crates of records to go through. Amongst the Mrs Mills & Marching Band LP's I got myself a few gems, this album on the Chess label along with a few other bits, this hasn't been off my turntable since! Apparently they have another 200 coming next week for me to look at......

Thane Russal & Three - Security (1966)

Now it isn't often that the late great Otis Redding can be bettered, but in my opinion this classic 60's freakbeat number by Thane Russal just pips him to the post. One of my all time favourite dancers, everytime I hear it I'm taken back to dancing in a tiny room under a gay pub in Rochester that my friends and I used to hire out & hold our own little club nights where I'd usually be the only one on the dancefloor, somethings never change!

Of course I had to link this weeks song to my shop, so the tedious link is..... Shop Around by The Miracles.  I was fortunate enough to see Smokey Robinson live a couple of years ago, and my, what a performer! He had the crowd in the palm of his hands within 2 minutes, and I'm not ashamed to say I shed a little tear when he sung You Really Gotta Hold On Me & Oooh Baby Baby.  Amazing.

Apologies for the lack of posting this week. My lovely sister Snowy Stylista has finally returned to Blighty after 6 months in the Alps and I have been busy catching up with her and today we are heading out for lunch and drinkies with all the girlies (outfit pics will of course follow!). I do hope you are all enjoying your weekend, I'm hoping the rain holds off as my purple Terry De havillands do not like being wet!

The David - Light of Your Mind 

This rather obscure tune from 1967 is a rather lovely slice of dreamy baroque 60's psychedelia. Not much is known about the band apart from that they made one album called "Another Day, Another Lifetime" which shall we says is as rare as hens teeth! This tune can be found as a 45 on Phillips and on the cracking 60's compilation Mojo - Acid Drops Spacedust and Flying Saucers: Psychedelic Confectionary from the UK Underground 1965-1969.

One of my all time favourite songs, I love their other single Undecided too - whenever I listen to either it takes me right back to my early 20's when I had a lot more time for dancing and a lot less time for stress!

I Feel The Earth Move by Carole King from the classic album, Tapestry.

I've been listening to this album again this week, it's totally one of those LP's where each song is a total classic. It also helps that Carole is one of the greatest songwriters ever with a beautiful voice too. This clip is from the short lived BBC In Concert series, BBC four played a few of these shows over the last couple of years when doing a singer songwriter season including Neil Young doing Harvest, James Taylor, Joni, The Eagles etc. I have seen a list of other people that featured in this series including Argent, Roxy Music, Stone the Crows, Traffic, Pretty Things, Badfinger and many more, but knowing the beeb these have probably all been deleted or recorded over!

Fill Your Head With Rock

I love old sampler albums, I think it stems from my brit pop days when I used to get all my new music from the tapes & cds stuck to the cover of Select & Q magazine...... Anyhoo this one, Fill Your Head With Rock (1970) Double LP, is a cracker with a diverse selection of artists from the CBS label 

Standout tracks for me are - Tired of Waiting by Flock (ace Kinks cover), Dance in the Smoke by Argent (ex Zombie serious organ driven fabness), The Inbetween Man by Amory Kane (dreamy, psychedelic folk). 

There are a few copies on ebay here, here and here all going for less than a tenner, come on rock fans treat yourselves!
