Hello October! Here we have the 1966 issue of Rave featuring John (Maus) Walker, it may not be my darling Scott, but it's a Walker at least and in fur nonetheless!

Some great ads inside, including this super classic Miners Hairspray one.

Rave September 1969

So better late than never as they say here is the September issue of swinging 60's mod mag Rave, this one is from 1969, and of course you all know that is Mr Jagger gracing the cover. By this year the format of the magazine had changed slightly, for one it is larger in size and also a lot less teeny boppy. The issues covered seem more serious and grown up, covering such themes as religion and conform schools. Unfortunately for me there is a lot less fashion featured, but it does focus on some more obscure bands & musicians.

So here are the Zip Girls, don't even try and ask me what a Zip Girl is, it seems like they were really trying to make the phrase "happen"! This feature showcases four up & coming models & actresses, including the late wife of Ian MacLagan who was married to Keith Moon at this time.

And finally.... here is a Baby Doll Make up Ad, I know that Miss Peelpants & Sweet Jane have both featured these before on their blogs - but I'm sure this one hasn't been outed yet?!?

Shame on me for forgetting to add this pic to my last post! How cool is this ad? It really is tea-riffic! I totally need one of these tea shirts! Does anyone know what the Tea Set is all about? From what I can gather it's some sort of promo from a tea company....

Award time!

The rules are well known in bloggerland, once accepting this award you should share a little about yourself, so here I go....

I have recently moved back to the place I grew up, it's a bizarre little island off the south coast of england, it  does have a couple of claims to fame - Rod Hull and Michael Crawford are both from here and during the second world war you needed a passport to get here!

I haven't been on holiday for 13 years! I'm hoping this will change this year, I reckon I deserve one by now!

My guilty pleasure at the moment is the terribly trashy The Only Way is Essex - Shuuuttt Upppp!

I'm a total Royalist, I love all the pomp and circumstance and although I think Wills and Kate are as dull as dishwater, I'm organising a Royal High Tea for Wedding Day!

I pass this award onto all of you my lovely followers if you so wish to accept it!

Modern Man Part Two - The Psychedelic Hippie

Following on from yesterdays post, here is the second catalogue. Now this has got to be from the second half of 1967, the summer of love had a huge impact on mens and women's fashion and judging from the content here - the mail order fashion world was no exception! Hope you enjoy these too!

Modern Man Part One - The Dandy

You know those ads for Mail Order catalogues you see in the back of old vintage magazines and you always think "I wish I could get one and order the clothes from it now!" well, you still can't order any of the clothes but I do have in my collection a couple of very cool items which I thought I would love to share on here. Below are a selection of pages I have scanned from the Modern Man Catalogues who (probably jumping on the bandwagon) had their offices based in that most swingingest of London places, Carnaby Street. I have two copies, the first I would date to either very late 1966 or early 1967 due to the Kinks-like regency dandy style of some of the items and by the trouser cuts. I hope you enjoy! Rave March 1966

I've been scanning in a fair bit of my Rave collection over the last few days and thought I'd share this cover, it's one of my favourites.  I love the font and fish eye pic of a very young Eric Burdon.  It's mad to think this magazine is now 45 years old! Many more to come...

Psychedelic Poetry

It's World That Makes The Love Go Round - Poems from Breakthru, published by Corgi Books 1968.

I scanned this book cover ages ago, and annoyingly I don't have it in my possession anymore so I can't post any of the slightly dodgy poetry compiled from Breakthru International Poetry Magazine, but I think the artwork is too cool not to share! This was actually featured in the Miller's Antiques Collecting the 1960s book, in this book it is valued at £120 I think, but I picked this up for £3 and the values in that book are rather out of date now and were a bit random at the time also. The Miller's book also stated that the artwork was by renowned 60s counter culture artists Hapshash and the Coloured Coat, although I can't say I'm too convinced, it is quite fab none the less!

ACDC vs Iron Man

I'm gonna start off by saying I'm not really an ACDC fan and don't really have any interest in the Iron Man films but I just found out that an amazing promo event for the new Iron Man 2 film took place a few days ago just down the road from me at Rochester Castle in Kent. These amazing visual effects were projected onto the walls of the last standing keep of the castle. I'm sooo annoyed I didn't hear about this event happening, I bet it was stunning to see it live. Do spend a couple of minutes watching the video, it is very cool indeed!

The bird is the word

I have quite an unreasonable fear of birds, when my fella and I lived in London a few years ago I was about to go out to work and opened my front door and in there in the hallway was like a hundred pigeons (ok ok it was more like 3) but needless to say I freaked out.

Now I really had to go out and I'm rather ashamed to say after hysterically phoning my fella and unsuccessfully attempting to convince him to come home from work and rescue me, I ended up having to throw my keys two stories down in to the street to my landlord (a rather elderly gentleman) who came and shooed the little buggers away. If a pigeon is hopping along minding his own business and happens to cross my path, I am the mad girl who stops dead or if it flies by me I will flinch and squeal, it's quite ridiculous. I think it's the flappy wings ugh *shudders*.

Besides the dreaded pidge I do find birds really rather beautiful. My favourite is the peacock, the males proud display of his stunning plumage in iridescent blues and greens, and the virginal white female are just stunning. The peacock feather has been used throughout the ages in fart and fashion, most successfully in my opinion in the edwardian and art nouveau periods. I hope you enjoy this little selection of vintage peacock themed items.

Get Smart

Isn't Rag Dolls just a super name for a clothing line? Now to the ad. Okay, so are you a ziggydolly or a psychedolly? Personally I prefer the psychedolly dress with the contrasting cuffs and collar, and the models hair is pretty fab too, but with ziggydolly you get a free belt & bell, hmmm it's a tough one! Don't forget dolly-dear you'll get a mystery gift with your dress.....
